The Gospel and Sexuality

March 24th, 2018

In the midst of the current debate over sexuality, the gospel is the most important resource we have to understand and love our neighbors. We believe that the gospel has the God-appointed power, through the work of the Holy Spirit, to open blind eyes and change hearts. As hearts are brought under the Lordship of Christ, they are given new desires to obey God’s laws and commands. This is why the gospel is so important in this discussion. The gospel is the only hope for all of humanity, because only the gospel brings us into relationship with God. This is why this seminar is so important. For, not only will the Biblical understanding of sexuality be discussed, but this seminar will focus on the power of the gospel to change lives for Christ.

SESSION 1: ‘How the Gospel of Jesus informs our sexuality’ There is perhaps no more contentious issue in our modern culture than that of what the Bible teaches about sexuality. But even more, how does the gracious gospel of Jesus affect our own sexual beliefs and practices? This session will equip us to understand and answer these questions lovingly, confidently, and truthfully.

SESSION 2: 'How the gospel of Jesus inform our mission to those struggling with Same-Sex Attraction and the LGBT community around us” Many people, including Christians, are same-sex attracted and are hard-pressed to find hope, friendship & support in the midst of it. How do we care for our Same-Sex attracted brother or sister? Yet many of our Gay neighbors, family, and friends are not Christian. How do we love our Gay neighbor?

Sam Allberry, editor for The Gospel Coalition, a global speaker for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, pastor based in Maidenhead, UK, author of a number of books, and founding editor of Living Out, a ministry for those struggling with same-sex attraction, will teach from God's word and share his testimony and wisdom in befriending, loving and sharing Jesus to the LGBT community.

Secret Church 2018

April 20th, 2018

$10

The apostle Paul was astonished that some followers of Christ in his day were “turning to a different gospel,” and he pleaded with them not to be deceived by those who wanted to “distort the gospel of Christ.” These warnings given to the church in the first century are just as relevant today for the church in the twenty-first century.

For the good of our souls and for the sake of the church’s mission, followers of Christ need to ask, “What false gospels are being taught today?” and “How can I recognize the true gospel among so many counterfeits?” Answering these questions will be the aim of Secret Church 18, “Cults and Counterfeit Gospels.”

We will consider the claims of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and other groups that claim to teach the truth. We will also explore more subtle distortions of the gospel, including prosperity teaching that is rampant across the church. In the end, our goal is to walk away from this Secret Church not only enabled to discern false gospels, but also equipped to share the true gospel with people around us and with peoples around the world.

We will be gathering at the SGC Dayton main auditorium from 6:30 pm to approximately midnight to enjoy fellowship, refreshments and do some significant study together. The $10 cost for this event includes the simulcast, a detailed study guide, and refreshments.
